Clough dismisses Owen link - 5th May 2011
Nigel Clough has branded reports linking Michael Owen with a move to Derby as 'silly' speculation.
It had been claimed that the Rams were planning an audacious summer raid for the England international striker.
With Owen's contract at Manchester United set to expire, Derby were said to have pieced together a £1.5million package to lure him to Pride Park.

The veteran striker is now fourth choice at Old Trafford, and with Danny Welbeck due back from loan at the end of the season, Owen is unlikely to be offered a new deal.
Rams boss Nigel Clough is desperate to bolster the quality of his squad in a bid to avoid another season fighting relegation, and sources claim he’s targeted the former England international as a marquee summer signing.
Clough has been promised cash to spend by the board, and with high-earner Robbie Savage set to retire at the end of the season, Derby are reportedly preparing a £1.5million package to lure Owen to Pride Park.

Owen is set to quit Manchester United this summer. And signing for Everton, who chased him before he signed for United, would make sense for Owen who lives locally and has growing interests in horse racing, with stables in the area.
Bruce wanted Owen in the last window and would snap him up for the right terms this summer too, with a pay-as-you-play contract on offer for the potential free agent.
